Incorporated in 1927, Knightdale is the youngest town in eastern Wake County, and with more than 11,000 residents as of the 2010 Census, is also now the largest. Over the years, Knightdale has undergone a transformation from a small rural town to a fast-growing Raleigh suburb. The town currently benefits from an excellent highway network, including the US 64 Bypass completed in 2005 and the I-540 Northern Wake Expressway completed in 2007. These two expressways offer residents of the town easy access to central and downtown Raleigh, as well as north Raleigh. With these highways came significant retail and commercial development, fixing Knightdale as an important destination for residents all over eastern Wake County.
